It is important for you and your family to live a productive and secure digital life online to get the most out of it. Whether you enjoy shopping, searching for new information, or keeping in touch with friends on social media, protecting your personal information from viruses, spyware, and hackers in the digital age should be your top priority.

Personal Data Protection

1. Don’t click that link!

The best way to avoid clicking on a dangerous link is to browse intelligently. Always carefully check the URL before clicking on it, especially when connecting to your bank, social networking site, email account, or when making an online transaction. Most browsers, including Firefox, Chrome, and Microsoft Edge, include a color-change on the left side of the location bar to indicate that the site has been verified as legitimate. If you don’t see a green “HTTPS”, abort, or at least proceed with caution.

2. Use two-factor-authentication(or Multifactor)!

Two-factor authentication, granular user permissions, remote wipe, custom passwords, expiry dates, notifications and more ensure you’re always in control.

With 2-Step Verification (also known as two-factor authentication), you add an extra layer of security to your account in case your password is stolen. After you set up 2-Step Verification, you’ll sign in to your account in two steps using:

  • Something you know, like your password
  • Something you have, like your phone

3. Delete recorded conversations!

By deleting the recordings or messages used by your personal assistant that you don’t require in the future may lessen the risk of being stolen or hacked. By doing this, you can protect your personal information from being exposed to unknowns.

4. Keep it clean!

you should delete files that are no longer in use to you but if someone gets access to it can create a problem.

We all know that deleting a file in Windows doesn’t actually remove it from your hard drive that file may be stored in the Recycle Bin, which keeps it intact in case you wish to restore it. Even if you bypass or empty the Recycle Bin, the file’s clusters still reside on the disk unless they’re overwritten with other data. And even then, a professional recovery product can often restore an overwritten file.

You may want to completely and securely delete a file if it contains sensitive information, or if you plan to dispose of your computer and want to be sure no one can access or view the file. You can turn to a third-party deletion or shredding tool that fully deletes a file by overwriting it multiple times with random data so the file is virtually impossible to recover.

5. Be less social!

Sharing too much on social media may put your personal information in the wrong hands. Pay attention to not only the pictures and posts you share but also to your privacy settings, as well, so that you’re limiting the number of people who can see what you’re sharing.

Whether you or your kids are on social media, always check their privacy settings. And when it comes to posting, make sure you understand what’s safe to share — and what’s not.

Share only that which will not harm you even if it gets into the wrong hands. Let me tell you The Golden Rule: “Post only about others as you have them post about you”.

6. Don't sync for sync’s sake!

Sync doesn’t collect, sell or share your personal data or app usage information to advertisers or third parties, and we do not claim ownership of your data. It backs up your files in real-time and makes it easy to recover deleted files and previous versions of any file, any time. Never lose a file again.

It's very important to Synchronize your personal data properly

7. Encrypt stored data!

End-to-end encryption protects your confidential data in the cloud from unauthorized access at all times. The purpose of data encryption is to protect digital data confidentiality as it is stored on computer systems and transmitted using the internet or other computer networks.

It helps protect private information, sensitive data, and can enhance the security of communication between client apps and servers. In essence, when your data is encrypted, even if an unauthorized person or entity gains access to it, they will not be able to read it.

It is very important to encrypt your sensitive and personal information so your privacy will not be violated.

8. Patch your device!

Patching your device fixes vulnerabilities on your software and applications that are susceptible to cyber-attacks, helping your organization reduce its security risk. Patching ensures your software and applications are kept up-to-date and run smoothly, supporting system uptime.

patches are part of essential preventative maintenance necessary to keep machines up-to-date, stable, and safe from malware and other threats.
